Isn’t it quiet obvious? 14th February is supposed to be the Valentine’s day post. I have to wish you all a very Happy Valentine’s day. It is a day to celebrate love and laughter and everything is rose tinted. Isn’t it? Then why does my heart not feel the mush? I don’t know why every year on Valentine’s Day I come up with something that’s very un-valentine(y). But then, its pretty much in sync with the four lettered word. It is about love… my post today but Its about loving yourself, before everyone else. Its about love against fear. It is about embracing your glory and fighting for anyone or anything that doesn’t let you shine.
For generations we have seen our men dominating the scene. We have seen harassment, we have seen humiliation, disparity, bias, molestation and we have been scared. Sacred because men can get heinous beyond imagination. We can’t forget the kind of pain they are capable of inflicting on some hapless girl who gets caught or trapped under their evil intentions. And not just physical molestation, its about being treated as a weaker sex anyway- physically, mentally, socially. I don’t understand why. Women are so talented, so blessed to multitask and definitely more sorted than men. They are natural nurturers, they are the reason we have a life cycle- She gives birth. She runs the house, she runs the office too now but then why is she scared? Why do men bring her down? And why does she have to grin and bear it?
I know times have changed and we are moving towards an equestrian society but we are still a thousand miles away from the ideal. And sometimes I believe the hindrances are self created. You see there are some women among us who do not have the realization of their own worth. Who are OKAY being treated bad . While some of us are still seeking saviors to bail them out of trouble. Now that’s unreasonable. If we know that the ones we are expecting to protect us can turn into beasts anytime, then why to even count on them? If we are seeking equal rights, we have to know how to FIGHT for them. That’s how the tables turn and that’s how the drums roll.
My pledge and request to all the ladies out there who think they need a savior- YOU ARE THE SAVIOR. Only you can save yourself from whatever is a threat or is bogging you down. Learn to love yourself, learn to defend yourself, Stand up for your rights and claim that space that you have earned on this earth. Its all here. Its all for you to conquer. I am promising myself today to love myself enough to be able to protect my own body and spirit.
THOU SHALT NOT BRING ME DOWN.
I am going to re claim what’s mine and I will lead by example so that my girl and her girl and then other girls ahead do not have to live in fear. Of anything or anyone. Its my Valentine’s day love that I am proclaiming for myself today.
This look is an ode to the strength that we all have and need to bring out. Learn to defend yourself- You have the power.
