First of all, Colossal Closet would like to wish all its readers a very bright and joyous HOLI. May this festival of colors add beauty and glory to your life eternally. Holi is truly a festival of colors, not just in toto but symbolically as well. As people drench each other in gulal, colored water and indulge in some lip smacking food, they also get drenched in the spirit of love, oneness and sheer joy. Endless giggles, warm embraces, friendly banter, flirty color play with the opposite sex, holi speaks the language of LOVE loud and clear. North India especially is quiet literally drowned in all the colors of the festival that one can fathom.
I personally have been holi shy all my life. I don’t like getting wet and un-recognizably lost in such colors that won’t leave your skin even after a few showers. But I love the way it brings people together. I love that the colors drown away all the differences, even if its just for a day. And of course I love Holi’s most special sweet delight- THE GUJIYA! I mean who can escape its temptation as the spirits soar high and all the play leaves you hungry for more!
While the festival is celebrated by each one in their own special way, Holi parties have lately gathered a lot of heat. Especially in Delhi, where farmhouses become holi hubs with endless music, drinks, bhaang and of course, lots of color play with pichkari and gulal! Who hasn’t stomped away to preppy bollywood numbers such as the ever green RAG BARSE or danced to the beats of dhol as the festive fervor elevates! I enjoy each part of this festival except getting soaked in water and color. A little gulal, foot tapping music and great food does it for me.
WHAT TO WEAR ON HOLI
Now since we all do look forward to this festival with so much anticipation, dressing up for it is of course an important part to. Wearing white is almost always a norm but the year 2017 has the color blast alert tone to it when it comes to Holi dress up. Unless you plan to get really dirty(in which case old clothes are the best bet, why spoil an outfit), invest in some really bright clothes for this HOLI. Bright kurtas, lehengas, suits even shirts add to the festive vibe and are just the right way to flaunt your style too.
I picked a bandhani skirt with a matching cape as my Holi Party attire. The entire outfit is from GLOBAL DESI, my favorite brand for all things bright and beautiful. This blue, red and white combo was vivacious and sober at the same time. Its the perfect attire for my celebratory mood and this time, we tried to capture its look amidst colors of festival quite aptly.
Do check out the look and let me know if it gives you the perfect #holivibes for 2017!
Honestly, I had a blast shooting this look and I believe its one of the better looks that I have shot for the festival. Awaiting your thoughts eagerly!
Meanwhile, have a wonderful wonderful HOLI YOU ALL! Happy Holi everyone!
