I picked up the papers today to see this very disturbing news (as always) of riots and violence reported from a lot of states in my country. It’s nothing new apparently, and my brother once just said it would be a lot better for our planet if 60% of the population would just vanish. But that’s not how we want our species to vanish right? Not by ruthless murders or hate crimes or sexual assaults or endemics. I would rather pray there was a mother ship much like some sci fi movie that would just take half of us and put us on a different planet, one that’s not dying each day and one where we could just probably start afresh, 7 billion of course is a huge number to deal with, even for god I am sure. Hey, if you are up there and listening, I think this solution will work, find time to pay some heed Lord!
Its a fashion blog, what I am even doing discussing random socio political stuff? Before there are judgments, it is my blog and I feel I could somewhere use it to express my opinions rather than strutting down in fancy clothing. But like always, eventually all my gibberish will find its way towards a certain look, so hold on tight, we will reach through to the #ootd by the end of this monologue.
My point however today is about finding a way to sustain ourselves while the other planet is being discovered. Let’s face it, there isn’t much left to give as far as mother nature is concerned. We have sucked the living daylights out of its resources and most of us are turning a blind eye to the impending doom that our materialistic approach is leading us to. If there is one thing that makes a lot of sense in my domain- fashion ,if it comes to giving it back, it’s probably sustainable fashion, it’s probably gender neutral fashion, it’s probably recyclable fashion. We are all diggers for something fresh, however, in that quest, wouldn’t it be nice if that SOMETHING FRESH was also something Eco friendly. Something that would also help in lessening the burden on our overburdened planet. We bloggers draw inspiration from our mom’s closet, the kids section, the closet of our boyfriends, husbands, brothers , friends and that’s because after all, there has to be limit to hoarding new stuff! How much do we go out and buy? And why? To promote materialism, to make the wage/caste/gender disparity loud and clear, to set unrealistic and manipulated standards of size and beauty?
I am guilty as charged too but more often than not, I don’t really cross that limit in my quest for promoting fashion. I know that the jazz and glam we show on our profiles do have a downside, there are people who start feeling inadequate rather than inspired, after all, every coin has two sides. I feel you. I really do. Because even after all these years of being photographed and admired, I feel inadequate at times. I feel shallow and disconnected and those are the times that I start writing this kind of stuff. Haha. #PerksofbeingaGemini.
Enough Gyan for today I guess. Time to tell you why exactly the pictures to follow have a connect to all my gibberish for the day. I am wearing gender neutral clothing that happen to be bought from Loom Tree, a brand that promotes sustainable fashion that’s also giving employment and recognition to Indian weaves and weavers. Also, Dhoti with shirt is a combo that a lot of Indian men are already adept with and now women too are embracing the comfortable and Indi-chic combo. It’s an easy , comfortable, everyday look for fashion forward women that can be easily worn by all age groups. Add the septum nose clip for that quirk factor if that’s what makes your cookie crumble. Also, do more everyday to make sure you save the ground beneath you from shifting, literally.
Awaiting your comments as always!
