Resilient, colorful, nomadic, enigmatic, wanderer and almost segregated. Stories of illicit sex, theft and crystals are what the apparent cover page of their lives looks like to the world. Romas, banjaras and all the terms that you associate with them, there is something very distinct, independent and appealing about a gypsy. On the contrary, Gypsies are almost regressed and oppressed tribe.
A gypsy girl is and has always been an enigma. Maybe its her confidence, as she is an equal to the man in their society. We in the world of fashion also use this term with pride and aplomb. Its an individualistic style statement that defines a free spirit and has inspired many a design lines. A person who isn’t bound by any shackles and is a free bird. Her fashion speaks independence, freedom and yet has a rooting for tradition. That is your Gypsy girl.
This is exactly the emotion I wanted to express with my VALENTINE’S DAY LOOK. It doesn’t have to be red or pink, it nee not be a short sexy dress or a girly frock or an elegant gown. It just needs to be you. In all your vivaciousness and splendor. It has to be your spirit, your love, your expression. I’m feeling bold, I’m feeling unrestrained and hence my clothing soars.
Teamed up these beige culottes with a Georgette mesh insert shirt to create a boho-gypsy, BANJARAN look. Its slightly quirky with the addition of a Bindi, A mark that speaks commitment, trust and purity. I am committed, I love and hence I feel loved. That’s what makes my valentine’s day and week and moment unique and mine. Culottes have been a huge trend since the last two years and they are my personal spring summer piece. Innovate, style and flaunt them the way you want. I chose a NATH to accessorize further. Its my way of adding that traditional touch to this ensemble. Besides being a statement accessory, I think it compliments the Indian skin tones beautifully. My footwear is again a JUTTI, another piece that symbolizes freedom as it has no heels and is Indian to the core.
My look is largely inspired by the fact that I want to break barriers. I want to have a nomadic life, not per se wandering, but exploring life and its many possibles. I don’t need the flowers and teddies, I just want to make sure that my life remains spirited and alive. I want to be considered an equal in a man’s world, not running away from my duties but doing things that aren’t shackled or imposed. Responsibility comes from within, feelings do too. But so do ambitions. This Valentine’s I propose life and its many forces to unite for betterment, of me, of everyone I love and every person who has faith. I propose power and trust, safety and humility. I propose love and acceptance.
My shirt is from Label Rocky Star and is a sheer delight literally!
Juttis are a purchase from LIMEROAD and this Gold Cuff and Nath is my own addition.
