The Amazon India Fashion Week recently concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 19th Of March with a bunch of fresh talented young designers from The Pearl Academy closing it in style. This year was my fourth season at the AIFW and while the buzz around the main event is palpable, it was a very pleasant surprise to see a similar kind of innuendo to the student designer’s show called the PEARL PORTFOLIO 2017 as well.
There was a huge crowd of curious and nervous/excited parents, students and fashion enthusiasts at the shows who were keenly watching out for the upcoming talent. Amidst hooting, whistles and applause we saw students put up some really good looking stuff on the ramp and considering that its just their beginning, the future looks sunny and bright!
Portfolio 17, was truly a mega design event where one could see graduating students showcasing their creative masterpieces in terms of Design, Fashion and Creative Business. There were exhibits in the form of movies, models, fashion shows, website and installations. On and on, it was a fabulous one day fanfare that has surely garnered a lot of attention among those who matter. Spotted amongst a host of celebs in the front row was designer Jattin Kocchar who seemed to be enjoying every bit of the fanfare and hysteria that was evident in the shows.
I loved that the clothing was wearable and practical. The silhouettes varied with different designers showcasing different sensibilities and there were clear favorites who were getting constant cheers from the crowd. Some of the designs were so spectacularly executed that one could easily compare them to mainstream fashion shows.
While the shows themselves were full of creative ideas and styles by the young design students, off the runway styles were no less than impressive. We spotted young fashionistas and dandy boys dressed to impress and the only difference in this crowd v/s fashion week was probably that their energies were very evident and gleamy, which is a good thing. Fashion Weeks have always been about exaggerated and in your face fashion statements and one could easily spot the same trends on what can be called AIFW extended on 19th of March.
Not only excited students, but their mentors and teachers as well were as involved in this very consequential showcase. It seemed to be executed well and I particularly loved the Exhibit area where one could see innovative textiles, photography portfolios, websites and much more put up by the talented students of Pearl.
Well that was my #Day5 of the Amazon India Fashion week with #Pearlportfolio and it was worth every moment spent there. I would truly look forward to their next season and am confident that they are going to reach heights.
